Police Officers in NSW, are randomly tested for alcohol, illegal substances, unauthorised use of prescription medications and anabolic steroids, I assume that the other Emergency Services departments and our ADF are the same.

The most likely substance that we would be worried about when talking supplements is of course anabolic steroids or androgens.

A recent study published in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism, conducted by researchers and the University of Technology Sydney and the University of Otago (NZ), found the following.

After purchasing 112 supplements over the counter and online, from different retailers in Australia and New Zealand, supplements which included; vitamins, fat metabolisers, protein powders, herbal extracts and pre-workouts. 5.4% of them tested positive for androgens!

None of the supplements which tested positive indicated on their labels that they contained ingredients which produced androgenic bioactivity.

If you take supplements which aren’t approved by the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) or are tested for banned substances by independent organisations like HASTA (Human and Supplement Testing Australia) you’re playing Russian roulette with your career.

This is why we have teamed up with Body Science (BSc). BSc have been developing supplements since 1999 and are the most trusted supplement brand in Australia, they were the first supplement brand in Australia to embrace Informed Sport and HASTA testing.

Many professional sports teams and elite individuals here in Australia and internationally trust Body Science with their nutrition.

Here are some of the organisations which trust BSc;

Simply put, as an Emergency Services worker, if you test positive to a random drug test, your career is on the line. If you aren’t able to show that whatever you tested positive for (steroid or other medication) was prescribed to you by a doctor, more than likely you’ll be out the door.

Protect yourself, only take tested supplements.
